CHARLOTTE, NC—Carolinas Cricket Alliance (CCA) opens its 2024 T20 season with eight matches on Sunday, March 10. Established in January 2023, the Carolina Cricket Alliance’s objective is to “advance leatherball cricket and its prospects in the Charlotte NC region and beyond, both now and in the future, and to assist cricket in realizing its full potential for development.” There are currently 29 teams listed on the CCA’s web site. The teams not opening on the 10th will open their seasons the following week on March 17. The regular seasons runs through August 11.
Introduced in 2003, Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of twenty overs. A typical T20 game is completed in about two and a half hours, with each innings lasting around 70 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. This is much shorter than previous forms of the game, and is closer to the timespan of other popular team sports.
