October 3 | “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain”
RALEIGH, NC—Academy Award®-nominated Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (2025) will be shown at North Carolina Sate University’s Witherspoon Campus Cinema at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Directed by Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang and Maïlys Vallade, the animated fantasy drama tells the story of Amélie, a Belgian child in Japan, who explores life with her companion, Nishio-san. Her third birthday ends up a turning point, marking the beginning of life-altering events that shape her understanding of the world.
The film has won awards at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, San Sebastián International Film Festival, Seville European Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards
Attendees are invited to stay after the film for a lecture and group discussion with Dr. Mina Kaneko, Assistant Professor of modern Japanese literature and culture in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at North Carolina State University.
The film is presented by the North Carolina Museum of Art.
