RALEIGH, NC—Celebrate Japanese culture, tradition, and athletic excellence at the East Coast Thunderdome Openweight Sumo Tournament featuring competitors from across the United States and Canada.
This July 4 tournament at the Carolina Pines Community Center showcases the spirit and heritage of sumo wrestling, bringing together athletes and supporters for a unique community experience.
In addition to live matches, attendees will enjoy local food trucks, raffle prizes, and opportunities to learn about the history of sumo in a family-friendly atmosphere. This event also serves as a fundraiser for North Carolina’s sumo athletes as they prepare for the 2027 USA Sumo National Championships in Seattle and the World Sumo Championships in Japan. All proceeds will directly support athlete travel, training, and community development programs.
