August 29 brought a full day of inspiring local, national, and international films.
Fourth Edition of the Charlotte Asian Film Festival Delivers
CHARLOTTE, NC—The 4th Charlotte Asian Film Festival, held on Saturday, August 29 at the Independent Picture House, was a celebration of Asian stories, voices, culture, creativity, and community. The festival featured 30 Official Selections (chosen from nearly 3,000 submissions) that showcased the richness and diversity of Asian voices.
Headlining filmmakers, Emmy Award®-winning filmmaker Eugene Yi of HBO’s The A List and Anand Kamalakar, director of Colonel Kalsi: Beyond the Call, appeared at the festival, sharing their films, expertise, thought leadership, and meaningful conversations with the Charlotte community.
The festival also featured a community conversation exploring Asian mental health and media representation, bringing together filmmakers, advocates, and community leaders to discuss how storytelling can reduce stigma, foster understanding, and create meaningful change.
Local Asian businesses provided a lively marketplace, including: Gully Boys Chai Company, Mems Thai Kitchen, Neelia’s Desserts, Shin Wakabayashi, KIKI, Sister Suy’s Hot Sauce, Thai Smile Street Food, The Tomaru Co., Tiệm Cô Tư - Món Việt, The Tokiya Company, and YumBai CLT.
The Charlotte Asian Film Festival was presented by the Carolinas Asian American Chamber of Commerce (CAACC) and the Asian American Foundation for the Carolinas (AAFC). The festival is made possible through the generous support of the City of Charlotte Creative Growth Grant, Barings, the Arts & Science Council Venue Grant, and Independent Picture House, with community partnerships from Charlotte Film Society, Charlotte Is Creative, CLT Asian Eats, CLTure, Civility Localized, Fifth Third Bank, MAYA Studios, Mint Hill Marketing, NAMI Charlotte, Rebrand Media Agency, Saathee Magazine, Social Media Club Charlotte, and Tarang.
